NUMEN, Basque black metal, out in June

NUMEN, a black metal band from the Basque Country, makes its long-awaited return on June 12 via Les Acteurs de l’Ombre Productions with “Erre”, a fifth album that is dark and relentless, deeply rooted in the ancestral beliefs of their native land.

Entirely sung in Euskera (one of the oldest living languages in Europe), this opus delves into the darkest chapters of Basque history, exploring the witch trials and the Inquisition of the early 17th century. Through these themes, NUMEN delivers a work that is both immersive and meaningful, where collective memory and ancient spirituality intertwine.

With “Erre”, the band offers a decidedly old-school black metal sound: fast, aggressive, yet also deeply melodic. Drawing from both Nordic and Basque traditions, NUMEN crafts a striking balance between raw fury and more progressive, soaring passages. The compositions, epic and uncompromising, transport the listener to primitive and frozen ages, into the heart of dark, untamed territories.

Driven by more introspective writing, the lyrics further intensify the overall experience, giving rise to a cohesive, inhabited, and culturally distinctive work. With this new album, NUMEN more than ever asserts a strong sonic identity and an uncompromising artistic vision.

For fans of ’90s Nordic black metal and those who appreciate fast, aggressive, and melodic black metal rooted in the spirit of that era.

It is available to buy, in advance of it being released, on the internet.
