Inexternal Dread, the powerful new full-length from Budapest’s Rivers Ablaze, arrives March 27, 2026.
Known for their uncompromising approach to extreme metal, the band pushes further than ever—melding black, death, and doom-laden intensity with progressive shifts and stark, atmospheric tension. Featuring Týr drummer Tadeusz Rieckmann, this is Rivers Ablaze at their most focused and formidable.
Formed in Budapest and active since 2019, Rivers Ablaze have steadily built a reputation as one of the most uncompromising and forward-thinking acts in the Eastern European extreme metal scene.
With their fifth album Inexternal Dread, the band delivers their most complete and sharply focused work to date.
The album embraces a progressive approach rooted in evolution rather than abstraction. Songs often strike immediately with melodic black metal ferocity and death-driven brutality, only to shift unexpectedly into darker, slower or more introspective phases.
Black metal and death metal form the backbone of the record, reinforced by doom-infused passages and a distinctive vocal delivery that occasionally brushes against grunge-like textures, filtered through a stark, noir atmosphere.
Inexternal Dread is a record built on tension and release: moments of overwhelming force give way to fractured introspection, with carefully placed notes and shifts that land exactly where they need to.
