Emerging at the end of 2019, Archvile King is the solo project of french multi-instrumentalist Baurus. Drawing from the sharp, biting sounds of retro Thrash and Black Metal, his music fully reflects his inspirations, offering intoxicating melodies over riffs as sharp as rusted steel.
After a unashamedly Thrash Metal solo EP, followed by a darker full-length album, ARCHVILE KING now pulls us deeper into its world with a new concept album plunging further into the swamps of the King of Worms. With “Aux Heures Désespérées”, we are drawn into Black Metal infused with shades of Heavy Metal, Thrash, and grandiloquent tones, pulling us down into the depths.
“Aux Heures Désespérées” is ARCHVILE KING’s second album. From the portrait fiercely drawn by “VILE” to the festering marshes of “À La Ruine”, this time Baurus recounts the final great battle of humankind against the vile Worm King. This new concept album offers several points of view, opening the door to multiple interpretations. From a wounded general who forces his son to leave him behind, to the Worm King himself mocking the troops in disarray, to the bitter reflections of a soldier on the verge of death, a bleak depiction of a futile battle is painted across eight relentless tracks.
The futility of war, the sins of the soldier, false convictions—through “Aux Heures Désespérées”, Baurus gives himself over to a pacifist meditation and a scathing critique of conflict through the lens of a blood-soaked tale.
