From the Bottom of an Old Grandfather Clock (A Collection of Demos and Outtakes 1966-70) by Bill Fay

Bill Fay passed away in 2025, leaving a catalogue of innovative, melancholic folk-rock songs and a reputation as the quintessential cult singer-songwriter. Despite his 1970 and 1971 albums performing poorly in sales terms, those two records would become beloved to a growing legion of fans, including enthusiasts such as Stephen Malkmus, Jeff Tweedy and Marc Almond.

Fay would go on to release three new albums between 2012 and 2020, his creativity having never dimmed in his years without a label. However, this collection sees Fay in his early recording phase; it’s a great listen for slow, wintry days, and a reminder of just how good he was.

It’s on the Bandcamp.
