Hansan: New Album Explores the Border Between Dream and Wakefulness – psych folk pop

This release offers a captivating journey through the border between dream and wakefulness, where the human voice and instruments meet in poetic harmony. With elements of folk, 1960s-inspired dreamlike soundscapes, pop energy, and cinematic storytelling, Vargar is an immersive listening experience that we hope will resonate with a wide audience. If you like bands like Dungen, Väsen or Triakel, this is something for you!

The German-Swedish duo Hansan returns with their new album Vargar
Their music explores the unique relationship between the human voice and instruments – how they merge, contrast, and enhance one another. While Hansan’s first two albums focused solely on cello and voice, Vargar expands their sound with guitar on two tracks: “Smultronblom och vit jasmin”, a tribute to Swedish 70’s singer Barbro Hörberg’s tradition of song and storytelling, and “Väck mig”, where Nick Drake-inspired guitar tones blend with strings to create a dreamy atmosphere.

The title track “Vargar” gains extra intensity through the distinctive voice of Swedish rock poet Stefan Sundström, amplifying the song’s raw energy. In contrast, “Sommarlov” is colored by the pure voices of students from Pops Academy Stockholm, evoking the feeling of a classic school graduation. The wordless “Ladidej” draws inspiration from old folk music, building a hypnotic rhythm that grows throughout the track.

The theme of the boundary between sleep and wakefulness runs like a red thread throughout the album. In “Sov” and “Hela natten lång”, the listener encounters calm, closeness, and security, while “Väck mig” and “Fyll mig” move through dreamlike soundscapes where seasons, emotions, and memories intertwine. “Smultronblom och vit jasmin” reflects on love and loss, while “Allting är förlåtet” addresses reconciliation and farewell.

Vargar is a unique sonic world where voice and instrument meet in poetic harmony. Folk music, the dreamy soundscapes of the 1960s, pop energy, and cinematic storytelling merge into an album that captivates, enchants, and takes the listener on a journey between dream and reality.
