ALBUM NEWS
We’ve recorded the soon-to-be released second album and are now at the mixing stage. We’re hoping to have the CD ready in time for Christmas. During the recording process we were lucky to have the wonderful Kim Ayres (who’s done a lot of our photography) as an embedded photographer at rehearsals, recording and performance – here’s one of his studio shots. We’ll be putting a series on the website when we get closer to album launch time…
LIVE SHOWS
This winter we have two busy spells in November and March. November includes taking the Berlin Jig to Berlin 🙂
We were delighted to be selected by Showcase Scotland to be part of the Scottish contingent at Shrewsbury Folk Festival, and we are also doing some shows for them in London and Berlin in December, and a run of ‘Scotland Introducing’ gigs in March 2026. There’s likely to be quite a few festival dates next year so keep an eye on the website if you’d like to come and see us.

SHAMBELLIE HOUSE MUSIC WEEKEND, NOVEMBER 14 -16
We hosted an intermediate level music playing weekend in Shambellie House (near Dumfries) earlier this year and there was a lot of interest in it happening again – so here are details about another one. Space is limited to 25 people and this newsletter is our first publicising of it so you lucky lot are ahead of the field if you’re wanting to book places. It sold out pretty quickly last time.
The main purpose of this weekend is to have fun playing music together, and develop your musical skills in the process. There will be a welcome meal and a Firelight Trio concert on the Friday night, then 2 days of music workshops, Saturday and Sunday, led by Gavin, Ruth and Phil.
Some sessions will be individual by instrument and some as a group, tailored to the level of the people who sign up. Workshops will be varied with some focusing on melody and some on accompaniment – creating something that we can all perform together at the end of the weekend. Teaching will be by partly by ear and partly using written music. If you only do one or the other, you will still be able to participate. People who sign up should be at an intermediate level on any instrument. There will be a slow session on Saturday evening.
The cost of the course includes the meal and concert on the Friday night, all the workshops on Saturday and Sunday, with lunch and dinner, teas, coffee and snacks all included. The workshops will finish with something all together on the Sunday afternoon, and Sunday evening will be a ‘Survivor’s Session’ for anyone who has not had to leave to travel home. There will be only 25 places available on this weekend.
