From the wild, salt-carved edges of Cornwall comes a voice steeped in light, shadow and story. On October 28 — when the veil between worlds grows thin — artist and musician Daisy Rickman’s acclaimed second album Howl will be presented for the first time in a wider release, pressed to luminous sunburst vinyl by the Weird Walk Record Cult.
This sacred date will be marked by Weird Walk’s Samhain Ritual at Earth in London on October 28, an annual gathering of music, merriment and myth. Here, the Daisy Rickman Band will share the stage with Samana, Lucy Gooch, Tree Carr and more, with the evening guided by folklore devotee and comedian Stewart Lee, and an after party DJ set by Paul Hartnoll’s Folk Horror Electro Techno Disco will round off the evening. The event is woven together under the patronage of The Ffern Folk Foundation — a Guild of five leading voices carrying the torch of British Folk into the future (more info here).
Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
The album sleeve, inner sleeve and art print all feature paintings made by Daisy Rickman.
“Similarly to (first album) Donsya a’n Loryow it’s just me playing on this record and you will hear a mix of singing, acoustic guitar, 12 string, double bass, drums, percussion, sitar, cello, bouzouki, banjo, accordion, clarinet, fiddle, and synthesizer. I enjoy recording alone at home as I really like the solitary space of creation one enters when experimenting within this process of making music. I love playing different instruments so it’s a lot of fun being in a realm of recording where these different parts of one’s musical self can talk to each other and play. It feels like a very meditative space to be in and a powerful creative place for communicating with the divine.” — Daisy Rickman
