Nick Harper’s new album ’58 Fordwych Rd’ available for pre-order

Nick Harper’s new album ’58 Fordwych Rd’ available for pre-order!

(Nick says…)

   … 58 Fordwych Rd., a hang out for a gang of up and coming musicians in London in the 60s. My Dad (Roy Harper) was one of them. It was his home. And mine. And Mum’s. People like Davy Graham, Bert Jansch, Paul Simon, John Renbourn, Jackson C. Frank and Sandy Denny would drop in and swap songs and spliffs and help each other find their way to becoming cultural icons.

   All the while that little scamp was there, inhaling it all in whilst playing his ukelele (left-handed apparently). Many moons later I sort of invited them back into the room and did an (award-winning!) Edinburgh Fringe show about it. And now it’s on record. The album includes a song from all of the above artists, but also ‘My Friend’ by Roy; In fact there are 3 versions:

   – There’s a limited run of a heavyweight vinyl version of the music from the show, with some incredible photos from back then, on that irresistible 12″ canvas;

   – There is the CD of the full Ed Fringe show – an hour of music, laughter, stories and surprises;

   – Lastly is a CD of just the music with no chat – one song to the next, but with an extra bootleg of ‘Highway Blues’ by Roy and an extra Bert Jansch song ..

   It was a privilege and a revelation to get inside these incredible artists’ stories and their music. I think the joy I found there is represented well in these recordings. Now – which one should you get? Well, there’s a thing ..

   I really want us to try and get this one into the folk chart. Why? Well not only because it would be a huge bit of fun, but also if we got it there, it would really help me keep on making music. So what am I asking? Well every sale of each format gets a notch on the chart. So please if you can stretch to more than one format PLEASE do it! Also tell your friends about this record and tell them to tell their friends! Maybe you went to one of the 58 shows and had a good time? Then why not tell people on your socials about that and that you have pre-ordered?

So head on over to my site, where the album awaits – and let’s get this show on the (Fordwych) Road
