Recently my auntie kindly gave me my Grandfather’s harmonium and I’ve used it to write my upcoming single. The harmonium is a traditional Indian instrument and is used in the Gurdwara, Sikh Temple, during worship. In keeping with this spiritual tradition, I have written A Sailor’s Prayer which reflects on lives lost at sea.
Sadly nautical charts are scattered with wreck marks as maritime history is rife with tragedy. Until Samuel Plimsoll campaigned for load lines in the 19th Century, ships were often overloaded making them at risk of sinking easily. Ship owners have also been known to scuttle ships- to deliberately sink them to claim insurance resulting in loss of crew. And of course wars have resulted in military and merchant vessels being targeted and destroyed.
The song will be released on 6th June on all streaming platforms.
I will be heading on tour next week, you can catch me at the following venues:
4th June at the Norwegian Church in Cardiff
6th June at the Fleece Inn in Bretforton
7th June at Lunderston Bay
21st June at Cafe 9 in Sheffield
