Turkish black metal veterans Nihil Kaos return with their latest offering, Mystagogue—an album that promises to push boundaries while staying true to their unrelenting, atmospheric sound. With Istanbul’s black metal scene experiencing a zenith, Nihil Kaos stand as one of its key spearheads, shaping the genre for over two decades.
From KaΏsatan to Noxkult, and now Mystagogue, the band continues to weave haunting ethereal explorations with ferocious aggression.
Formed in 2003, Nihil Kaos have been putting Turkish black metal on the map for over two decades. Their unique brand of heavily atmospheric but very aggressive black metal led them down a very different deeply rabbit hole than your average black metal band. From KaΏsatan to Noxkult and now, Mystagogue, the band mixes their ethereal explorations with an unrelenting pace and sound that is at once haunting and explosive.
On Mystagogue, the band leans deeper into these esoteric musings. Their first album with new vocalist Tleps (Acherad, Kyy) after the tragic passing of long-time frontman Iconoclast in 2021, Mystagogue is a harrowing journey into the chaos where the band was born and where we all shall return. The power of that chaos, the tragedy of it, the beauty and even the terror of it. From omega and back to omega. The band chose to publish “Eternal Genesis” first to embrace that cyclicality, Tleps remarks of the piece “As for Eternal Genesis, the most important thing is that it is the first hint about the time to come. Especially after a decade with no new full length LPs. It is the first step of a forward-facing transformation.”
