Time Warp Blues is the 3rd album by Portuguese experimental songwriter Rita Braga, co-produced with Andrea Rocca in London. Release date 20.11.2020 (limited vinyl edition).
Braga’s eerie pop compositions have been compared to the likes of The Space Lady, Silver Apples or Bruce Haack, alongside distinct influences including jazz from the 20s and 30s or post-punk groups like The Raincoats.
Drawing inspiration from classic film, cabaret, pop and punk/new wave, Braga writes and performs songs in multiple languages (here in English, Portuguese, Finnish and Japanese), singing over her vintage keyboards, drum machines, and a ukulele or banjolele. Time Warp Blues is a journey towards a vortex of ghosts and time travels, evoking different time periods in recent history and reminding us of our dystopian times. The phantom in the lead single Tremble Like a Ghost suggests that we’re still living in 1984.
Over the last decade she has toured all across Europe, the US, Brazil, Australia and Japan. Her previous album Bird on the Moon was listed as one of the “Top 15 ukulele albums” by The Wire magazine. Past collaborations include work with Ian Svenonius, Mary Ocher, The Legendary Tigerman, Dorit Chrysler, Felix Kubin and more.
“Crafted and catchy, Braga’s singularity stands out in an age dominated by mass-production.”

“What the world needs now more than anything else is an electro Betty Boop. It really does.”

TREMBLE LIKE A GHOST (R. Braga) – Lyrics
You and your ways are lonely Come out and set me free if you don’t start to tremble like a ghost you’ll never see the best of me Don’t start to think too far ahead stop there and answer me where were you back in 1925 when Pickwick Club collapsed on me You and your ways are funny Come out and treat me right if you don’t start to tremble like a ghost you’ll never see the end of time Don’t start to think too far ahead stop there and answer me where have you been since 1944 when Lili put the soldiers to sleep (solo) You and your ways are lonely Come out and set me free if you don’t start to tremble like a ghost you’ll never see the end of me Don’t start to think too far ahead stop there and answer me where were you back in 1965 when Seeger tried to cut a tree You and your ways are funny Come out and treat me right if you don’t start to tremble like a ghost you’ll never see the end of time Don’t start to think too far ahead stop there and answer me where have you been since 1984 an age we are still living in.
