This is the album that set Kíla around the world. Released originally in 1997 on CD and Cassette, Tóg é go Bog é was a world embracing album full of idealism, talent and gorgeous music.
“One of the most beautifully euphoric live experiences..” BBC World Review
In February 1997 this album emerged from Dublin, Ireland. First there was a charted single Ón Taobh Tuathail Amach – unheard of for an unheard of band singing in Gaelic! Next an appearance on the nationwide tv show The Late Late Show followed by a triumphant tour of Ireland promoting the freshest of albums to come to fore in Ireland.
It was traditional music but not in the traditional sense, more a collection of pieces of music painting pictures; Crann na bPinginí, was a slow air full of longing and loving. the lead single Ón Taobh Tuathail Amach was Cuban meets funk meets samba meets afro. And the sweeping suites of Dusty Wine Bottle and Rusty Nails (all 4 movements of each of them) mesmerised all with their enormous musical scope and ambition.
On the back of this release Kíla built a reptuation as one of the most innovative bands in the genre of world music, as one of the most exciting live acts in any genre and as one of the freshest sounds to come out of Ireland for a long time.
The recent vinyl revolution has prompted many a query to Kíla Central about getting Tóg é go Bog é onto vinyl. We decided to celebrate the album’s 21st birthday with this double album, gatefold cover. Mastered by Simon Francis (formerly of Abbey Road) the album sounds delicious on beautiful speakers with the delicate crunchy needle led vinyl sound.
Kíla are long since one of Ireland’s most exciting, innovative and creative bands. They straddle many musical worlds traditional, world, folk, fusion, Celtic among the many caps they can wear, but it is their punk energy that sets them apart, their relentless drive for expression through music and their consistency.
The album is available in the UK from Cadiz Music and online from www.kila.ie
