Musician & Broadcaster Miriam Cooke debut album

Miriam Cooke releases her brand new album Freefalling via First Night Records.
Miriam Cooke is an archaeologist, musician and and broadcaster for BBC, C4, five, Discovery and National Geographic and was one of the presenters on BBC One’s Country tracks and BBC’s ‘The story of Now’ . Her music documentary
‘Symphony of the Stones’  on music and sound in Prehistory for the BBC World Service’ was broadcast December 2017.

A former International fashion model, she trained and worked as an actress and musician before she was awarded a first in her BSc in Archaeology and a distinction in her MSc in Environmental Archaeology from the Institute of Archaeology, UCL. After this she attended Durham University on a PhD scholarship.
Miriam’s love of music, travel, adventure, history and the countryside is drawn from, and layered with influences from her archaeology background, her formative years growing up in a farming community in Ireland, a keen interest in folklore and social history, and from the other side of the coin; her life as an actress and fashion model whizzing from fashion capital to far flung location.
She likes a good ferret around into the past, and a good shoe. Soldiers of the Damned, the WW2 psychological thriller, which she produced and starred in, won Best Director at the Marbella International Film festival.
Miriam’s new pop acoustic album ˜Freefalling’ is  produced by award winning multi-instramentalist Nick Pynn and Phil Ward, released by First Night Records. Freefalling
, an acoustic, folk-pop mix, blends rich, soaring Joni Mitchellesque harmonies with chilling, darker glimpses of haunting heartache and social unniceties.
The catchy, whimsical, often ethereal, folk acoustic pop flavour of Miriam Cooke’s music draws from a gypsy life spent travelling continent to continent, recording and singing over many years.
‘I’ve always been drawn to music that both lifts, and at times, painfully pierces our delicate sensibilities. Music that elicits emotions, often physical responses, be that the raising of fine hairs on your arm or the sudden urge to move, dance, beat a rhythm, run a mile. Personally, I think I’m always drawn a little to the dark side… of music that is.’ Miriam Cooke
“Miriam Cooke’s music combines the sweetness and accessibility of acoustic pop with indie quirkiness, falling within the realms of contemporary folk whilst touching on its more traditional roots. Her clear voice, is reminiscent of Sandy Denny, Canadian Joni Mitchell,  and the great Kate Bush. Perfection.”

“This wonderful songstress is the perfect candidate. Accompanied by flute, violin, double bass and of course her own guitar and voice she combines wonderful stories and delicate melodies.”
