Leaving behind a broken relationship to go on tour, such was Jake’s sense of loss and loneliness when writing this song that he didn’t have the courage to sing it out loud even to himself before performing it to a live audience.

Jake says: “I would sometimes scan the audience for her. I knew she wouldn’t be there, but it helped me to imagine she was. It’s a very important song for me, a little bit magical even. Every songwriter can point to a few songs that are extra special to them. Often they don’t even feel like they wrote them. Ghostess is definitely one of those for me.”

Now firmly established as a ‘live’ favourite, this studio recording marries the fragile rawness of the lyrics with tender strings and Massive Attack-eque percussion that build to a stunning crescendo. Taken from his forthcoming second album (due 2015), this single spotlights Jake’s maturing approach to lyric writing yet retains his trademark direct delivery of songs that get under your skin.

‘Ghostess’ boasts a great line up of musical collaborators, including bass player Simon Edwards (Talk Talk, Billy Bragg), string arranger Kate St John (Dream Academy, Nick Drake), award-winning producer Calum MacColl (Peggy Seeger, Ronan Keating) and mix engineer Calum Malcolm (The Blue Nile, Prefab Sprout).

Since the 2012 release of his debut album ‘Many Fish To Fry’ Jake has been busy building a dedicated live following and enjoying strong social media support. He’s been touring constantly, playing over 250 gigs and festivals in the UK, Canada and Europe, at the same time as writing songs for his as yet untitled second album.

Previous support has come from across 6Music, Radio 2 and XFM as well as over 40 regional radio stations and national press. We predict that the sublime ‘Ghostess’ will bring Jake Morley to an even wider audience.
