Julie Fowlis New Album out 24th February

Hi folks,
I hope this finds you well and happy. I write with what I hope is good news….
The fourth Julie Fowlis studio album, ‘Gach sgeul / Every story’ is now ready and will be released officially on February 24th. It is available as a pre-order now at our online store at www.juliefowlis.com (shipping worldwide will take place in early February, ahead of the official release).
It’s hard to describe just how enjoyable it was to record this album, it was a real privilege to work with such amazing musicians; to create new soundscapes to beautiful songs, words and stories, some from many hundreds of years ago, some more recent. The album was recorded in one of the most beautiful Scottish summers, and I can still place myself back in the studio on those long sunny days when I listen to the tracks now. It’s been over four years since the last studio offering, and since that time I have been blessed with two daughters. I suspect that, in-line with how my life has changed, my voice and my approach to the songs have changed too.
My husband Éamon and I collaborated with some of the finest musicians on this album; it features the outstanding talents of Highland fiddler Duncan Chisholm, Dublin guitarist Tony Byrne, Capercaillie’s Donald Shaw and Ewen Vernal, and many more. We had the pleasure of making music with the gorgeous and intuitive RANT lasses (www.rantfiddles.com) who added a beautiful dimension to the record. We’ll add some tracks to the site in the days and weeks to come, keep an eye out for them.
We will play a few select dates in Scotland and England in April and May to promote the album, please see the Tour page on the website for details, and please note more dates and summer festivals are to be added in the weeks to come.
The renowned Scottish festival Celtic Connections is in full swing, and I have been privileged to have been part of many special concerts, in particular, the opening night of the festival where we premiered our collaboration with virtuoso violinist Nicola Benedetti, which will feature on her new Scottish themed album, to be released later this year.
We also launched the new album to a packed, sold-out house at the Fruitmarket on Thursday night, with a full 12 piece band. This will be broadcast on the BBC in the next few weeks, the date and time will be made available on the website if you’d like to (or are able to!) tune in.
Tomorrow though, it’s back to Glasgow, to more concerts, including the seriously fabulous Transatlantic Session Live show. It’s a real honour to be included again in the line up this year, and following the Celtic Connections shows we tour throughout the UK with shows in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Gateshead and Liverpool before myself and my own band head out to Holland for a show in Rotterdam on February 8th.
Further news about the album will be forthcoming, but for now – fàgaidh mi sibh le blasad dhen chlàr ùr (I’ll leave you with a wee snippet of the new album). Hope you enjoy!
