GreenRock 2013 is Bigger and Better!
COLNE Town Council is extending the music vibe that suffuses Colne Town Centre with the Blues Festival by staging its popular GreenRock Concert the following weekend, on 31st August. Held on Colne’s Millennium Green, off Shaw Street in Waterside, the Council’s Events Committee has devised a bumper schedule of acts, giving diverse musical performances from noon until 7 p.m.
The Committee’s Chair, Councillor Dorothy Lord, explained: “As usual, this is an all-inclusive event, with the Millennium Green being fully accessible for the disabled. We want families to bring their chairs and picnic blankets and enjoy the entertainment. There is bound to be something for everyone.”
Although GreenRock is free, there is a strict limit on numbers, so the Council is calling on GreenRockers to turn up promptly at noon.
Local businesses are attending GreenRock to keep the GreenRockers fed and watered, so those without picnics can be certain of sustenance. There will be an extensive range of sandwiches and soft drinks and, in anticipation of good weather, lashings of ice cream! After rave reviews at last year’s GreenRock, the Council has also secured the services of a popular facepainting duo.
Here is the GreenRock 2013 Running Order:
12Noon – DRaks Drum – an original acoustic-rock band from Colne
1PM – Third Thumb – Using two drum kits, a multitude of loops, guitars, basses, keyboards, samplers and the odd vocal noise, their hypnotic live performances fuse gymnastic multitasking, mathy rhythms, heavy dynamics, improvisation and wonky electronica.
2PM – LEN – Original music from song writer, Mike Craine
3PM Dirty Donnas – A four piece cover band from Earby
4PM BIGBELLY HIFI – A traditional reggae sound system from Colne with its roots derived from British sound system culture
4.30PM – DRUM MACHINE – uses traditional Samba Reggae instruments, to create pumping dance floor grooves influenced by Techno /Drum and Bass/Reggae and Dub/Funk/House/Jazz
5PM – Walter Mitty’s Head – 60’s Punk, Psychobilly from Colne
PLUS A bit more DRUM MACHINE
6PM – Rasta4Eyes – Leaving behind the ska-punk mayhem of their formative years, their sound has evolved into disciplined, focussed dub-reggae music
7PM – GreenRock 2013 Ends
“We look forward to welcoming Colne’s music lovers to the Millennium Green on 31st”, enthused Cllr. Lord. “GreenRock is a great show case for local bands, as well as those a little further afield. However, I believe it is the wonderful Colne atmosphere, generated by people of all ages, that makes GreenRock such a vibrant, fun event.”
